¿Quién fue Bev Bos? / Who was Bev Bos?
Bos was a passionate advocate of child-centered, developmentally appropriate play-based programs for young children…a teacher, author, and, singer, she began her career as a parent volunteer at Roseville Community Preschool in 1965, and then spent almost 50 years as it’s director.
At Caterpillar Farm preschool, we proudly embrace Bev Bos's philosophy, placing play at the heart of our educational approach. We believe that children learn best through meaningful and joyful experiences, and we strive to create an environment where play is cherished, celebrated, and woven into every aspect of our day.
Here is a glimpse into how Caterpillar Farm Preschool embodies Bev Bos's philosophy:
Child-Led Learning: We value each child's unique interests, strengths, and abilities. Our environment is designed to follow the child's lead, allowing them to explore and discover at their own pace. Teachers act as facilitators, observing and supporting children's play while fostering a sense of autonomy and independence.
Play-Based Environment: Our school is vibrant and filled with open-ended materials, props, and play areas that inspire imaginative play. We provide a wide range of materials, such as blocks, art supplies, and natural elements, to encourage creativity and hands-on exploration.
Hands-On Experiences: We believe that children learn by doing. Our curriculum emphasizes experiential learning, where children actively engage in real-life experiences. Whether it's cooking, gardening, or dramatic play, we provide opportunities for children to immerse themselves in meaningful activities that promote problem-solving, critical thinking, and social skills.
Emotional Well-being: We recognize the importance of emotional well-being in children's development. Our teachers prioritize building strong relationships with each child, fostering trust, and creating a nurturing environment. We encourage the expression of emotions and provide ample opportunities for children to develop social and emotional skills through play.
Community and Collaboration: Collaboration is an essential aspect of our play school. We foster a sense of community by encouraging children to work together, share ideas, and engage in cooperative play. Through group projects and team-building activities, children learn to communicate effectively, resolve conflicts, and develop empathy and respect for others.
Outdoor Exploration: We believe that nature is a rich playground for children's growth and development. We provide the opportunity for outdoor play and exploration, allowing children to connect with the natural world, develop a sense of wonder, and engage in physical activities that promote gross motor skills and a healthy lifestyle.
Joy and Celebration: Play should be joyful, and we celebrate every moment of it! At Caterpillar Farm Play School, we infuse play with laughter, enthusiasm, and a sense of wonder. We organize special events and family engagement activities that highlight the joy and importance of play in a child's life.
