Hola, mi nombre es Lucía. I’ve been happily working with children ages 2 to 12 and their families for more than 25 years.
Born and raised in Puebla Mexico, I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and Care at Colegio Esparza in the year 2000. In that same year I moved to the USA and studied English as a second language and also continued my education in Early Childhood Education and Care, completing an Associates Degree in 2006 from College of DuPage in Illinois, where I discovered “free play” for preschoolers. I’ve experienced diverse education philosophies as I worked in schools, using traditional practices including Reggio Emilia, Montessori, and Waldorf. In 2008 I participated in a training with Bev Bos, at the Roseville Community Preschool in CA, where Bev was a mentor and teacher for 50 years, and it was around that same time that I opened my first Spanish 4 All in Naperville, IL.
After relocating to Washington State and putting down roots on Vashon Island, thanks to my partner’s job, I participated in training at the Wilderness Awareness Program in Duval, and spent 4 years at the Vashon Green School before starting the Spanish 4 All immersion program we have here today. You can also find me teaching Spanish to young home-educated students through the Vashon Family Link program.
I am committed to learning and applying knowledge about how children learn, and the best practices we can offer to meet their emotional and academic needs. My goal is to create an environment where nature and free play come together to help children develop a sense of uninterrupted freedom. I am there to serve, without breaking the intimacy of the play, and the aim is for children to learn to trust themselves deeply and to learn what represents them, while developing self awareness, and evolving their intuition.
Caterpillar Farm is the new name of our Spanish 4 All preschool. Simply a name change, but also to reflect our home and the meaningful changes your child will go through during the preschool years.
