• ¿Quién fue Bev Bos? / Who was Bev Bos?

“Our flexibility and willingness to follow a child’s lead will allow remarkable things to happen, if we let them.” - Bev Bos

Bos was a passionate advocate of child-centered, developmentally appropriate play-based programs for young children…a teacher, author, and, singer, she began her career as a parent volunteer at Roseville Community Preschool in 1965, and then spent almost 50 years as it’s director.

“If you really want to be a good parent, set some time aside every single day to lie on the bed and just listen to your kid. Make it their time. Don’t be in a rush. Time is fleeting, so you really need to pay attention.”

  • bilingüismo y académicos / Bilingualism & Academics

A Spanish immersion preschool program for preschoolers provides numerous benefits for young children. Here are some of the key benefits:

Bilingualism: One of the most obvious benefits of a Spanish immersion preschool program is that it can help children become bilingual. Research has shown that learning a second language at a young age can have numerous cognitive benefits, including improved problem-solving skills, enhanced creativity, and better memory retention.

Cultural Awareness: A Spanish immersion program can also help children develop an appreciation for different cultures. By learning about the language, customs, and traditions of Spanish-speaking countries, children can gain a broader perspective of the world and develop a sense of empathy and respect for people from different backgrounds.

Improved Academic Performance: Studies have shown that bilingual children tend to perform better academically than their monolingual peers. This is because learning a second language can enhance cognitive flexibility, which is the ability to switch between different tasks and thought processes.

Enhanced Communication Skills: Learning a second language can also improve children's communication skills. By learning to express themselves in Spanish, children can become more confident and articulate in both Spanish and English.

Increased Career Opportunities: In today's global economy, being bilingual can be a valuable asset in the job market. By learning Spanish at a young age, children can open up a world of career opportunities in fields such as international business, education, and healthcare.

  • juego libre dirigido por niños / Child-led free play

Our program supports child-led free play, which is academically appropriate for my students' age.
This type of play allows children to explore their environment, use their imagination, and develop their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills.  Child-led play promotes academic readiness by developing children's executive functioning skills, such as attention, memory, and self-regulation.
Children learn to plan, organize, and execute their ideas.  During play, children engage in conversations, negotiate, and express ideas all which helps them develop their vocabulary, grammar, and social skills.

Children are invited to participate in planned activities, but they are encouraged to follow their heart and decide what they want to do or not do.
We believe that children learn best when they are actively involved in their own learning, and when they are given opportunities to explore and discover the world around them.

Children at Caterpillar Farm do have exposure to letters and numbers in songs, games and dance.

Play is so important to optimal child development that it has been recognized by the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights as a right of every child.

  • MBIT (multiple brain integration technique)

MBIT is a neuroscience that is used to find your way to better decisions and to understand why people make certain choices.  mBraining is putting it into action.  It focuses specifically on the head, heart, and gut. It is a relatively new field of study that has gained popularity in recent years due to its potential to enhance personal and professional development and integrating it into a preschool curriculum, mBraining can be used to promote holistic development in young children.

mBraining can be used to promote emotional intelligence in preschoolers.  Their brains are just learning to identify and manage their emotions.  By teaching them to listen to their bodies,  they can develop healthy emotional habits that will serve them well throughout their lives and help them identify their emotions and respond appropriately.

Cognitive development refers to the mental processes that children use to learn, think, and reason.   Teaching preschoolers to use their hearts to empathize with others, they can develop their social skills and emotional intelligence, which can enhance their cognitive development.

Physical development refers to the growth and development of the body. By teaching preschoolers to use their guts, they can develop healthy eating and exercise habits.  We invite all children to participate in school chores, from loading the wagon, pushing and pulling the wagon, gathering wood for the fire and raking the paths around the school.
We do all this while singing in Spanish.
